Phyto-purification is a natural wastewater treatment process that uses plants and
microorganisms to remove contaminants from water. It is also known as herbal treatment or natural lagooning. The operation of phyto-purification is based on the ability of plants to absorb nutrients and filter pollutants present in water. Wastewater is routed to specially designed basins, called phyto-purification basins, which are filled with substrate and planted with suitable plants. Phyto-purification has several advantages over traditional methods of wastewater treatment. It is considered an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution, as it uses natural processes, does not require the addition of chemicals and can operate with low energy consumption. |
