| Résumé : |
The objective of this study is the synthesis and characterization of hydrogels based on
polyethylene glycol (PEGMA-co-HEMA), as well as the investigation of their swelling behavior in different media and at different temperatures. Four hydrogel formulations were prepared by UV photopolymerization by varying the composition of PEGMA and HEMA. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis confirmed the successful formation of the polymeric network and the presence of the main functional groups. Swelling studies were carried out in distilled water and in a water/ethanol mixture at 21 °C and 37 °C. The results showed that the swelling behavior strongly depends on the hydrogel composition, the nature of the solvent, and the temperature. PEGMA-rich formulations exhibited higher swelling capacity due to the flexibility of polymer chains and their hydrophilic nature. In contrast, increasing the HEMA content led to a denser polymer network, which limited solvent diffusion and reduced swelling. Kinetic analysis was performed using the exponential model (first-order kinetics) and the Schott model (pseudo-second order). The obtained results showed a good agreement with experimental data, allowing the determination of kinetic parameters and providing a better understanding of solvent diffusion mechanisms within the polymeric network |
