Environmental issues with the chemical and biological contamination of water have become a
major concern for society, government, and the industry in the last 30 years. The majority of domestic and industrial activities result in wastewater that contains harmful pollutants. Especially organic contaminants, in particular pesticides or phytosanitary products, are introduced by agriculture to improve crop yields. These practices constitute a direct threat to the environment, living beings and in particular to human health. Therefore, techniques to remove pesticide residues have been developed to reduce the contaminated areas and matrix. In this context, a study is carried out on pesticides photocatalysis process using two different catalysts (TiO2, ZnO) of a model molecule (Thiabendazole with Dimethoate). The disappearance of the organic molecule is measured (60% for ZnO against 30% for TiO2) and the degree of mineralization of the solution is evaluated by the measurement of global parameters such as the permanganate index (70% for ZnO). This study is carried out with commercial solutions also, other parameters that influence the degradation were studied, the neutral pH is by far the best condition, concentration of the catalysts (5g/L for ZnO and 0.2g/L for TiO2) and the calcination temperature (400 and 500°C for ZnO, 600°C for TiO2). |
